About Je'Vari Anderson | The Story Behind Fashion Distrxct
I was born and raised in West Oakland, California—a place full of culture, resilience, and creativity. My city shaped me. From the music, slang, and fashion to the movements that inspired change, Oakland has always been about standing out and standing up. But growing up here wasn’t easy. Raised by a single mother, I experienced housing and food insecurity, constantly bouncing from place to place. Survival was the priority, and sports became my escape—the one thing that kept me from turning to the streets.
I was naturally gifted at football, and my talent took me to De La Salle, one of the top-ranked high schools for sports. But at that time, I wasn’t taking school seriously. I had offers from top programs like Michigan, but my lack of focus in the classroom cost me. Instead of heading to a powerhouse university, I found myself back in Oakland, at Laney College—back in the struggle, back to where it all started. But Laney made me.
At Laney, I had to redefine myself. It was a second chance, and I took it seriously. I became a top-ranked athlete, got recruited by multiple schools, and finally committed to UCLA. That moment felt like redemption. But life has a way of testing you. While at UCLA, I suffered a major concussion that nearly ended my life. That was the beginning of a hard truth I wasn’t ready to face—my career as an athlete was coming to an end.
For so long, football was my identity. When it was gone, I had to figure out who I was without it. That transition was painful. I felt lost, like everything I worked for had been stripped away. But I turned to something else—psychology and fashion. These two things saved me from a dark hole, especially after losing my mother in 2020 and my grandmother in 2023. Grief hit me hard, but instead of letting it consume me, I channeled it into something bigger.
That’s how Fashion Distrxct was born. My mother and I used to talk for hours about clothes, shoes, and how to “put it on” with confidence. Even back in my football days, my teammates always told me I had the best style. I took my love for fashion and turned it into a brand that represents individuality, resilience, and fearlessness.
Now, as a PsyD candidate, I’m using Fashion Distrxct to fund my education, but also to inspire others. This brand isn’t just about clothes—it’s about self-expression, confidence, and rewriting narratives. It’s about breaking generational trauma and curses while creating generational wealth.
My motto? Put it on, don’t wear it.
It’s not just about fashion—it’s a mindset. It’s about taking what you have, making it your own, and wearing it with confidence. This brand is for those who refuse to fit the mold, who embrace individuality, and who aren’t afraid to be different.
